HALLER LAKE | North Seattle Neighborhoods
The Haller Lake neighborhood is named for the small lake north of Seattle which was given its name by Theodore Haller, who platted the neighborhood in 1905. Although the train system serviced the area in the early 1900’s development of Haller Lake proceeded slowly and was surprisingly sparse until the mid 1900’s. By 1950, neighboring Northgate had opened a regional mall and that area drew large numbers of people close to Haller Lake and additional development along with it. Throughout the latter 1900’s the neighborhood continued to develop at a steady measured pace as the main thoroughfares through the area (Interstate 5 and Aurora Avenue/State Highway 99) blossomed.
Today the main business district in Haller Lake lies along Aurora Avenue although it is a mixture of large retail and big box stores, medium commercial and fast food restaurants. Housing in Haller Lake is primarily single family residential with a small number of condos and townhouses. Housing prices in Haller Lake are lower than neighboring areas with condos starting around $500k and houses around $650k.
