The small Portage Bay neighborhood lies to southwest of the body of water for which it is named. The bay is the connection between Lake Union and Lake Washington through the Montlake Cut, a manmade canal built in 1916. There is no centralized business district in Portage Bay and only a limited number of shops and restaurants at the northernmost point as it connects with the Eastlake neighborhood. Portage Bay homes include a mixture of single family, condos, multi-family and one of the largest groups of floating homes and houseboats in the city. Homes in Portage Bay start around $350k for a condo, $400k for a floating home and $700k for a single family home but quickly go up in price.
